WB-3: Norsok and well integrity fundamentals for production personnel
Give the participants an insight into details of importance when monitoring and
maintaining well integrity measures. Following the course the participant shall be able
to understand the well architecture and take necessary initial steps in monitoring of
barrier elements and envelopes.
Brief description of the course
The course gives an introduction to basic well integrity fundamental, an in depth
introduction to how wells are constructed, and the parameters and methods used to
monitor well integrity arrangements through the life cycle of the well. The participants
are given examples and asked to solve issues based on the material from the lectures.
The course is compliant with day 2 of the Well integrity fundamentals as described in
section 4 in the Norwegian Oil and Gas Association Recommended Guideline for well
integrity (recommendation 117), rev. 4.
Personnel directly responsible and or involved in supervising and monitoring the wells integrity should have the
- Production operation personnel offshore (including OIM, production supervisors, control room operators,
technicians and senior technicians).
- Production operation personnel onshore (incl. Operations supervisors, production engineers, production
technologies, HSE personnel).
- 09:00 – 09:30 Recap of well barrier
definition and principles
Refresh terminology and methodology to establish a two barrier
envelope system for well activities.
- 09:30 – 10:00 Requirements to well
What is required for a well barrier and well barrier elements to fulfil
their function through qualification and monitoring.
- 10:00 – 11:30 Introduction to principles
and equipment used for
construction of wells

with description of typical components (well/casing design, cement,
fluids, drilling, completion and production equipment).
- 11:30 – 12:15 Lunch
